1 Dead After Car Slams Into Back of Semi: Police

The collision happened Sunday night on Route 41 in Wadsworth.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — One person is dead after a car traveling at a high rate of speed slammed into the back of a semi truck Sunday night in Lake County. The collision happened at Route 41 and Wadsworth Roadat about 10:15 p.m., according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation shows a 2012 Freightliner tractor/trailer, driven by a 46-year-old man from Alger, Ohio, was headed north on Route 41 when the collision occurred. The semi was stopped at a red light and was just beginning to accelerate after the light turned green when a 2005 Chrysler 300 ran into the back of it, according to authorities.

A witness told police the Chrysler was traveling at a high rate of speed just prior to the crash.

The driver of the Chrysler was pronounced deceased at the scene. The semi truck driver was not injured.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
