Colorado Department of Transportation 5 hours ago UPDATE (7:45 p.m.): ALL LANES OPEN I-70 AT EMPIRE (MM 232)

At approximately 10:30 a.m. a semi truck traveling westbound crashed through guardrail in the median into eastbound I-70, where it wedged behind a pillar of the bridge. The truck also became airborne at some point and hit the top of the bridge. Westbound opened this afternoon, but all lanes eastbound remain CLOSED.

It was messaged earlier that a single lane would be open eastbound, but due to additional safety concerns regarding the removal of the semi, all lanes must remain closed until after the truck is removed and the bridge is inspected and deemed to be in good condition. DETOUR ROUTES are in place. Alternate Routes CO 9 South at Frisco to US 285 NB in Fairplay or CO 9 North at Silverthorne to US 40 EB in Kremmling. Crews have removed everything from the trailer and are currently working to push the truck out. No estimated time of opening. We thank you all for your patience.
