Driver charged in Oak Ridge Farm fatalities

Kwahj Andoh Kirkpatrick, 34, of Charlotte, has been charged by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office with two counts of Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, following a fatal tractor-trailer crash on Oak Ridge Farm Highway in March, where two Statesville residents lost their lives.

Around 11 p.m. on March 29, Kirkpatrick was traveling eastbound on Oak Ridge Farm Highway in a R+L Carriers tractor-trailer, near the intersection of Wiggins Road,  when he drove left of the center line to avoid hitting a stopped vehicle that was waiting to turn left.

The tractor-trailer then collided with a westbound Chevy truck at the intersection, spinning the truck around and onto the side of Wiggins Road,  where it caught fire. The tractor-trailer itself ran off the side of Oak Ridge Farm Highway and into a field after the collision.

The occupants of the truck, driver Mark Anthony Eckles, 47, and passenger Brian Kevin Gray, 47, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Kirkpatrick has been released from custody on a $100,000 unsecured bond and given a court date of August 24 in Mooresville.
