Driver identified in fatal dump truck crash in Powhatan County

POWHATAN, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities continue to investigate a fatal single-vehicle crash after a dump truck overturned in Powhatan County on Monday.

At approximately 2:50 p.m. on June 4, Virginia State Police responded to the scene at Huguenot Trail and Happy Hollow Drive.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver, identified as Michael Ray Braswell, of Amelia, was driving a dump truck fully loaded with gravel on Huguenot Trail when he ran off the road.

The truck struck a ditch line and overturned onto its passengers’ side. The truck’s load of gravel was dumped across the road.

Braswell, 54, was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Investigators believe a possible medical emergency could have been a factor in the crash. Braswell succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.
