The Rhode Island DOT will divide I-95 in both directions as part of an ongoing bridge replacement project in Providence.
Rhode Island Department Of Transportation will implement a divided highway configuration on I-95 North and South in Providence beginning the week of June 25.
Traffic lanes will be separated by a barrier, and through traffic will have to pass on either side of the barriers.
The new traffic pattern, which will be in place for approximately three months, will be located on I-95 North between exit 18 and exit 20, and on I-95 South between exit 19 and exit 18. There will be two lanes to the left of the split and one lane to the right, and all exits and on-ramps will remain open.
RIDOT says it may close lanes during overnight hours, no earlier than 10 p.m., if necessary for the project.
The changes are being implemented as part of ongoing work to replace the Blackstone Street Bridge, which carriers I-95 over Blackstone Street. Since March, traffic in both directions has been shifted to the right, RIDOT says.
