Semi bursts into flames after striking empty charter bus on I-294

A semi burst into flames after it veered onto the shoulder of Interstate 294 and struck an empty charter bus parked on the side of the tollway Monday night, according to the Illinois state police.

The 37-year-old driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to Elmhurst hospital. No other injuries were reported, but the crash closed down lanes in both directions of the tollway near Berkeley, state police said.

Several lanes near mile marker 32.50 were blocked by emergency personnel but traffic was getting by on the left shoulder.

The accident happened shortly before 7 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the tollway.

No other details were immediately available.
