VESPER (WAOW) – A 45-year-old Onalaska man was severely hurt Friday in a crash between his sports utility vehicle and a loaded pulp truck, Vesper Fire Department Capt. Paul Dederich said.

The SUV ended up in a ditch and the driver was trapped after the crash about noon at the intersection of County Highways Fand HH, he said.

The SUV driver failed to yield at a stop sign and the truck hit the vehicle on the passenger side, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department said.

Rescuers got the man out of the vehicle and he was flown by helicopter to Marshfield Medical Center, Dederich said in a statement.

The truck driver, 21, was from Eau Claire.
