BLANCONIA – Light rain was cited as a contributing factor in the 18-wheeler-Chevrolet pickup crash about nine miles west of Refugio just inside Bee County, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Nathan Brandley.
Brandley said the driver of the 18-wheeler was eastbound when he jackknifed and slid down state Highway 202 to a head-on crash with the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup that was headed west.
The driver of the pickup, 28-year-old Lyndon Dean Meyer, of Victoria, was pronounced dead at the scene by Bee County Justice of the Peace Ester Castro.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was HALO flighted to Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi, where he is stable, according to Brandley.
Because of the severity of the crash, state Highway 202 was closed for hours until the scene was cleared.
Brandley said the accident was still being investigated.
One fatality and other injuries were reported at a crash on state Highway 202 around noon.
The crash occurred about nine miles west of Refugio just inside Bee County near Blanconia.

An 18-wheeler and Chevrolet Silverado pickup were the two vehicles involved. An air ambulance was called to the scene.
