Fatal 18-wheeler vs. pedestrian crash shuts down I-20 at Highway 351 exit

A fatal pedestrian vs. truck incident had traffic backed up along I-20 at the overpass at Highway 351 near the entrance to Walmart.

The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. and involved a FedEx truck in the westbound lanes of I-20 in north Abilene.

The Abilene Police Department was at the scene of the collision and police officers are currently investigating the incident.

Medical crews initially arrived at the scene of the wreck but left the scene shortly after their arrival.

The roads surrounding the site of the incident were shut down due to investigation and cleanup.

Authorities said the person who was struck by the truck has died.

This is the second fatal pedestrian incident on I-20 in the last five days, with the previous incident occurring about a mile down the road at the West Lake Road exit on I-20 westbound.

Pedestrian killed on NE Marine Drive early Tuesday

The driver of the semi-truck that struck the pedestrian remained on the scene and cooperated with police.

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a semi-truck on Northeast Marine Drive early Tuesday.

The name of the victim was not immediately released. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators.

According to police, at 4:55 a.m. on Nov. 20, North Precinct officers responded to the 18200 block of Northeast Marine Drive on the report of a crash involving a pedestrian and a semi-truck.

When officers and emergency medical responders arrived, they located an adult lying on the roadway. Emergency medical responders determined the person was deceased.

Based on the preliminary investigation, officers believe the driver of a semi-truck was traveling west on Northeast Marine Drive when he struck a pedestrian that was on the roadway. After striking the pedestrian, the driver of the semi-truck stopped his vehicle and called 9-1-1.

Northeast Marine Drive was closed between Northeast 158th Avenue and Northeast 185th Avenue during the investigation.

Members with the Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team are responded to assume this fatal traffic crash investigation. Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division are also assisting with this investigation.
